Not that I am suggesting that the two cases are linked directly, but I think it gives the subject a broader context of the attitude toward sex, sex crimes, power, influence and control.

Yes it is.
And this sort of thing is going on to thousands of our young people, those that are vulnerable and our elderly all over the planet, daily.
I know Simon Bellwood, I have worked with him and have worked with others whom I trust and value as true professionals, who have worked with him and all testify that he is a very honourable man.
It can be difficult being male and working in child care. Either you are looked on as an Angel or as a pedo.
Unfortunatly it has attracted those sort of deviants, Angelic-like pedo's are the worst, for reasons mentioned in the article.
For me, it certanly wasn't my chosen career path and I am glad to be out of it.
The pay is crap, the responsiblities too high, the training was either ineffectual, irrelevent, not based in reality and usually on your day off.
The physical demands of 18 plus hour days and the mental stress levels of flying by the seat of your pants are not healthy.
Not only do you have to be aware of the kids, you have to be aware of those you work with and have the courage to speak out if you suspect something is amiss.
But it didn't matter about the reports and recommendtions you made to the child's social worker, be that, this child deserves more attention or support, or that this child has serious behavioural problems which if not addressed will lead to either harm of themelves or harm to others, residential care workers were not part of the 'club' (not local authority social workers), and thefore our reports mean little, until the shit hits the fan of course.
Frustrating.
And as you can see from the article, when these people who are charged with looking after our children, or supervising those who do are challenged, they are skilled and educated enough to use the system to protect themselves and those they support.
Corruption at the heart of power.
